The Bookshelf

(Raises hand guiltily) I'm a reader.  That's good . . .  but it can also get out of balance.  Too many books sometimes crammed into too little time.  I'm an equal opportunity reader, and can gain nuggets of wisdom from many different sources. Don't bother trying to figure out my specific theological bent based on the books listed .  . . it might make your head spin!  :)   Here's part of what has been on the bookshelf lately.

The Holy Bible.   I'm working on making the Bible my most important reading material.  A few years ago I did the Bible study The Mind of Christ by T.W. Hunt, and in it he related that at one point in life he vowed to read only the Bible until God signaled to him that he had begun to think in biblical terms.  That lasted 4 years!  The strength of my immediate reaction that I could never do that made me realize that I needed to pay more attention to where I get the majority of written input.  In 2010-2011 I completed my first full read-through of the Bible, using the NLT One Year Bible.  For 2011, I'm working on a chronological read through of the Bible in ESV, and did the full New Testament in 40 days for Lent (NIV).  God is sparking a greater hunger to be in His Word daily, and memorizing Scripture along with that.
